If you're interested in joining the choir this is what you need to know...

What are the requirements for joining?

To be able to sing strongly and confidently ideally in a gospel style
To be able to sing in tune
To be able to harmonise (to hear a melody and be able to add a harmony line)
To be an active member of a local church
To be a follower of Jesus and have a desire to make him known
Some experience of singing in choirs or leading worship is useful but not essential
You don't need to be able to read music but we do use music and the choir is a great opportunity to start learning

How much commitment is it?

You don't need to sing for every event we do! Once you are a part of the Pursuit Of Gospel community then you can sign up to whichever events you'd like to join us for and then come along to the rehearsals for that event.

Do I need to audition?

Yes, but it's very informal and takes about 5 minutes or less. Chat to Chris or drop an email to pursuitofgospel@gmail.com to find out more and arrange one. If you're not successful at audition this time we will tell you what areas of your singing you need to be working on. Getting some singing lessons is a great way to develop, train and protect your voice.

When do you rehearse?

Most of our rehearsals are on fortnightly Sunday afternoons 2-4pm at North Street Church, Taunton in the run up to each event. We often have a full rehearsal with the band on the Monday evening before the event.

Our mission

We want to bring God's love and hope and joy through every event we do. We do concerts, outdoor events, charity events, worship nights in churches and ministry in prisons. Gospel music is an incredible vehicle for us to use to connect with people of all nationalitues, ages and experience and to share with them the story of what God has done in our lives. We also love the community that comes through Christians from different churches around Somerset coming together in unity to worship and work together.

Our team

The choir started in 2022 as a musical experiment with a few friends who shared a love of gospel music and over the last few years has steadily grown into a community of now over 90 people who have played or sung with us at different events. Massive thanks to the amazing team of people who help with tech, sound, marketing, videography, planning, arranging, playing and singing and enable us to do what we do.
